Mangrove Chalets

Hidden amongst the dense mangroves, the cosy chalets are built on stilts in the shallows and surrounded by reeds, with semi-open roofs and ceilings made of woven Palmyra mats. Each contains a comfortable, tastefully furnished bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and a private balcony overlooking the marshes and the mangroves which is a haven for endemic, local and migratory birds. The partially open roof lets you enjoy the refreshing breeze off the lagoon, cooling the interior and also offers you a window to the night sky and the constellations above. Best of all is the little loft reached by a small spiral staircase – just perfect to chill out and gaze over the mangroves with a drink for company; or a romantic nook to watch the moonlight glisten on the quiet lagoon.

Water front Chalets

We have introduced 8 new waterfront chalets by the side of the lagoon. Spacious yet cosy they have all the necessary amenities for a very comfortable stay. Specially fitted for those with mobility difficulties, we are the only hotel in the area to offer accommodation facilities for those with special needs – with a dedicated chalet built to provide wheelchair access, support handles, grip bars and so on.

The décor is contemporary, yet ‘local’ in ambience. Muted earth-coloured walls are complemented by bright linen and the wide windows frame magnificent views of the Kalpitiya lagoon.

Lagoon view Chalets

Two spacious chalets are yours to choose from, each consisting of two double bedrooms which can accommodate a maximum of four persons and are furnished with a luxury king-sized bed draped with soft, white linen and fitted mosquito nets. Aluminium-framed, glass sliding doors let in the cooling breeze, and lead you out to a large, private veranda where panoramic views of the Kalpitiya lagoon will enthral you. The standard amenities include a mini-bar, safety locker, tea/coffee making facility, fans and air conditioners to keep you cool. The unique bathroom offers spectacular views of the lagoon and shower with hot/cold water too.

A special feature of each chalet is the luxury of snuggling in bed and enjoying a magnificent sunrise – a wonderful way to wake up to all that awaits you for the rest of the day.

Our Cabanas are the perfect way to feel close to nature yet enjoy all the creature comforts too.

For the more adventurous at heart, out to experience nature in true outdoors fashion, there is a fully equipped campsite which includes summer tents as well as elevated ‘Cadjan’ huts with comfy bedding. The bunker type toilets and showers are open to the sky and also overlook the lagoon. To make the experience even more authentic, a campfire, BBQ and charcoal grill are also available. The theme of the campsite reflects traditional rural life: the ‘Ambalama’ – an eco-hut set on the shore of the lagoon is perfect for just chilling out and to enjoy a relaxed meal on the ‘Banku kota’ – hand-made wooden seats; or on a Theppama – an antique wooden boat; a great way to fully appreciate the serene surrounds and the beauty of the locale.
